When I Was a Young Boy

When I was a young boy

There was this young girl,

We loved each other

But we were too young

To know what people in love

Did with each other.

We knew they did it naked,

So we took off our clothes

And got to know each other.

But we didn't know what to do,

So we swam naked in her pool.

Our friends they watched with envy.

 

Story of my life.

This awkward dance

That we call love.

I never seem to get it right.

Not that it's wrong it just

Never ends well.

I mean my last girlfriend

She stole six hundred bucks

And left me homeless.

It's not that I don't try,

But here I am

One month away from forty

Laying here alone

Romancing the muse

She was always the only one

That could put up with me. 

 

 

 

 

 

Michael D. Grover is a Florida-born poet. In the late 90's he moved to Los Angeles where he really found his poetic voice. He found a poetic movement in Larry Jaffe's Poetic License. There he learned most of what he knows about poetry and performance. From there Michael moved to Philadelphia, where he and another poet Natalie C. Felix started the poetry series Uni-Verse-All Voices which started at the world famous Five Spot, and ended two years later at The Friends Meeting House. Michael has featured and read his poetry all over the country.
