Nature

Chris Collins

(for Carl Sagan)

purple rouge pink and yellow

flowers grasping at the sky

nature surely does endow

all we see with naked eye

she inhabits wet or dry

she displays both high and low

never ever was she shy

exposing facts like Foucault

even desert sands that blow

their tiny grains long gone dry

reveal many things that grow

that only microscopes espy

nature gives we must allow

she bestowed us earth and sky

revealed many secrets – wow

when scientists got the why

then she awed the science guy

when she dazzled Sagan’s eye

Chris Collins is:  is a former educator - Graduate school, including a master’s degree (Columbia Univ.) doctoral studies, a former instructor in psychology – Marist College, Poughkeepsie; SUNY Ulster, did a brief stint in local politics, a short fling at nature photography, and the founding and running of a non-profit comedy festival that donated  profits to survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. He has explored the history of western civilization and concluded that poetry is a great art form for exciting the imagination and

sublimating the inner autonomy of the self that so many of us fear. He considers himself a minor poet with a brief portfolio and high hopes. He continues to write poetry because he believes it provides an internal sense of well- being to readers and himself.
