The Beggar Knows
by Loris John Fazio
the beggar knows
the metropolitan
mysteries
written on the walls
in the language of the
nightcrawlers
he laughs at the
shadows
and the shadows laugh
with him
beware
of his laughter
his eyes can see the
signs of forces
conspiring to humble
those who are
self-righteous
beware
of his gaze
the master slumbers
on a throne of rust
and the shadows awaken
behind him
the long outstretched
arms of fate
gather like clouds of
smoke
above his head
rainclouds filled with
blood
waiting for a crimson
storm
