POEM BY THE MAN WHO
WAS SHOT BY HIS WIFE
by John Grey
I would prefer to be
drained of blood by a vampire
or ripped to shreds
by a sharp-clawed beast
or strangled by
the ancient hands of a mummy
or cut up and used for spare parts
by a Romanian mad scientist.
I don’t mind dying.
But I’d rather not
take it personally.
