Where Dead Babies
Come From
Nolcha Fox
for Stefanie Kirby
I leave a trail of
dead babies. Dead babies are the appointments I missed. Dead babies are the
people I thought of but never called. Dead babies are my ships that came in at
the wrong shore. Dead babies are the chances I didn’t take because I thought
they were dead ends. Dead babies are all the summer evenings when the sun was
still in the sky and I was in bed. Dead babies are all the babies I killed
because I wasn’t there.
Nolcha Fox’s poems have been
curated in print and online
journals. Her poetry books are available on Amazon and Dancing Girl Press.
