Survival Isn't About
Reaching the Top
by Richard LeDue
I feel like a mountain climber
who hasn't survived a fall in
months
because the beer is left at the
liquor store,
while whisky wonders what
happened
to me, only to forget my name
when someone new buys a bottle
without noticing all the
descents
and ascents give each other
meaning
around a summit, littered with
corpses
too lost to risk rescuing just
to bury.
