Issue #112, July, 2025

The month of June was a mess. Our sister mag, Yellow Mama, was 12 days late due to issues at our Web hosting place, Lycos Tripod. Now we’re back up and running, but the whole thing got me thinking about what we would do if it ever totally crashed. Cindy Rosmus, over at YM was very patient, but I decided to look into an alternative Web hosting service.

So now I am in the process of learning to do websites “the hard way.” I have always built all our stuff on proprietary software right on the hosting service’s servers, but now I’m learning Wordpress and, being 81 years old, it’s a challenge, so much so that I went to my local Borders and bought Wordpress for Dummies. Say what ya want, I learn better from books than by watching tutorials and demos on the computer. I guess I just need to back up and go over things too many times. And I like to mark the hell outta textbooks with highlighters and stuff. So, one of these days, you’ll most likely get a surprise when we go to our new domain. For now, Tripod is back and running marginally well, so we’ll soldier on.

This issue, I want you to pay special attention to a newbie (for us.) Michaele Jordan has sent us a story called “Taking Care,” and it is hard-core Sci-Fi, something we see too little of here at BP, so be sure to give that one a read. Everything we take is good stuff and we consider most of it superior, then once in a while I get a story that rings my bells. This is one of those. Welcome to Black Petals, Michaele, and don’t be a stranger…

I also thought Hillary Lyon did an outstanding job of illustrating that piece. Give it a look and see if you agree…
