Segue into Shadows
Kenneth
Vincent Walker
Segue to a place
Which I’ve known—
Lying face down in
The freezing snow
With visions of my
Youth gone awry.
A puncture wound
Small but deep.
Out and about on a
Cold winter’s eve.
Too frozen for my
Hemoglobin to
seep.
Luckily to have
fallen
Yet not to have
Broken any bones.
Save for my
brittle
Pride in which I
Remotely still
own.
As I shift through
The shadows
finding
My way back home,
For this night is
no
Different than any
Other night which
I stroll silently
alone.
