Last Thirteen Steps
Kenneth Vincent Walker
Just thirteen
steps
Are what lie ahead
In the slow walk
of
A condemned man.
Music plays on in
my
Head a somber
tune;
A dirge of the dead.
Funeral flowers
emit
Such a stale
stench.
The air is still
in muted
Reverence. The
attire
Dark to mark this
sad,
Sad event. The
clock
Now stopped shall
be
Rewound no longer
as
The day is bright,
yet
Growing ever
darker.
Time dwindles
down.
I’m not a
murderer, yet
Shall be hanged by
the
Neck beyond these
Last thirteen
steps.
