Wild One

by Ian Mullins

Hitchcock’s Psycho

Sometimes the eyes
say it all. You can look sad,
scared, all of the above;
but when the camera
perches like a crow
on the hood of the car
cawing at the windshield

and the boss-man’s voice-over
rattles like a tin can
after a wedding getaway car

you’ll know you’ve fooled them
all of these years,
hiding in the office
hiding on the phone.

We don’t need the vulture smile
bending your lips,
we can see the imaginary truth
wild in your wicked eyes.

Look out boys, beat it cop;
there’s a wild one
coming through.

Ian Mullins ships out from Liverpool, England. The chapbook Almost Human (Original Plus), concerning his ongoing battle with Asperger’s Syndrome, was released into the care of the community in 2017. Dirty Sweet (Anxiety Press) was released early in 2023, followed by Fear of Falling Backwards (Cactus Mutt Press) near the end of 2023. The movie-themed NightWatchMan (Alien Buddha Press) followed in 2024.

Bernice Holtzman’s paintings and collages have appeared in shows at various venues in Manhattan, including the Back Fence in Greenwich Village, the Producer’s Club, the Black Door Gallery on W. 26th St., and one other place she can’t remember, but it was in a basement, and she was well received. She is the Assistant Art Director for Yellow Mama.
