Rising Star (Sixth Magnitude)

Joseph Danoski

I tried to be bigger than life,

Create a myth and mystery;

Only to become a flicker

And footnote in history.

It’s time to make a decision,

Adopt a new attitude;

Move with logic and precision

Into my true aptitude.

Poet of the sixth magnitude,

Barely seen with the naked eye;

Radiating more heat than light

In my corner of the sky.

It’s time to rise right-ascension

To a higher latitude;

Climb the degrees of declension,

With measures of gratitude.

Dim star on a dark horizon,

And outshined by brighter names;

I’m rising higher in the charts,

But still sinking in the flames.
