The Wolf Man and
the Sex Trafficker

"Nothing like unexplainable evil,"
He thought. His wanted poster, next to hers
– –
A missing teenager – – arrested his
Attention. Runaway? In
jeopardy?
A fugitive himself, both predator
And prey, his memory was uncheapened
By everyday conclusions. Unmarked doors.
Thieves’ Alley. Soon he knew the right address:
Sex traffickers. White slavery. Menace.
Rubbing the crystal he used to transform,
His quiet self unraveled. Strength
increased.
One mighty move ripped off the metal door,
Its hinges snapping, stale air drifting through:
Tobacco, unwashed bodies, piss, decay.
Afraid to move, a dozen kids remained
In place – – like students wait to be
called on.
"They locked us in!" boys shouted finally.
"We’re hungry!" Children cried. Some were tied up.
A girl yelled, "Who are you?"
"Police!" he lied.
"I came disguised." He led the
group downstairs,
Across to a garage. A transport van,
Parked with its keys, just happened to be near.
Remembering this escapade,
he smirked
About the unseen kidnappers, surprised
When they returned. They both knew
dark’s domain,
Its touch, its greedy grip – – so much alike
– –
Preying on prey and killing just to
kill,
Alarmed at what can’t be killed in themselves.
