Stardoms

there is a hole
in John Lennon's coat
the one he stripped to escape Imelda
the gorgon from Manila
the hole was never fixed
i would remember that for twenty years
my poor man's dream of hitting it big
would stitch that void with ambition
tattered threads on invisible light
my failing eyes and bleeding hands
would comfort me for not failing miserably

a rhinestone fell
on Elvis’s monstrous belt
sparkly like Nixon's saintly teeth
the reflection was phantasmagoric
a carousel of schemes whizzed and
an oracle was announced from its gleams
i was dazed in riddles
but the verses were plain to see
loneliness would strike me rich
a dollop of honey rejecting me
would comfort me for not failing miserably.

Riding the Morning Static

there goes the static
ssssshhh
my car radio is down
and my morning drive is blurred
by the downtown fog
"Stormy Weather" is playing in my head
and Billie Holliday is singing
under the blue light of my daydream
i look around
and see deadbeats and alcoholics
all glassy-eyed, restrained to their velvety seat
what drags me to this corner?
the waitress has no answer
and runs with my meager tip
the writing on the bathroom reads
"losers are the greatest lovers"
i piss and try to place things
splashhh
the vapor in the surface is disturbed
good heavens i am romancing
the noise that is unrealized
and sinking in my mellifluous beats
there goes the static –unbroken.
